Acadia Nation Park lies in Mount Desert Island
off Maine coast. The island is filled with rocky coastline, forest, lakes,
mountain and even fjord. So many incredible but different
natural environments are
neatly packed in one island. Unlike most National Parks in mid-west,
this site is fully developed with lots of hotels, good restaurants and other
facilities in nearby Bar Harbor.
That said, the park itself still preserves what the Nature created.
There are more
options of what you can do in (or near by) the park. Other than sight-seeing
and hiking, you can go swimming, mountain biking in forest carriage road,
boating, whale-watching, fishing..
And they got great Maine lobsters!

Acadia National Park is well developed.
You don't need to spend a lot of efforts to enjoy the park.
The land has almost everything to make anybody a happy time.
Plan a minimum 3 days stay here. The park loop drive can easily take half to one
day depends on how long you stay at each stop. Spend 4 to 6 hours at Schoodic
Peninsula. If you want unique experience you can spend a day in Isle Au Haut
(which we have not been to and can't comment). Spend half day or more at Bar
Harbor downtown. If you have more time, you can pick some trails or the
Carriage Road for hiking or mountain biking.
This is the only National Park in northeast.
There is no other national park within reasonable driving distance. If you
travel by plane I do recommend to make your stop at Boston and spend maybe
two days in this charming city. In total you would need 5+ days. It has
cool summer to make it an ideal place for getaway
and forget about the other seasons.
